| Military Destroyer
(Escort) Mark Bridgeman The Military destroyer is the mainstay of the Imperial Fleet and used mainly to support fleet auxiliary units (usually in destroyer squadrons) and maintain supply lines to the Imperial fringe, its offensive capabilities (a mix of laser and missile armament) is considered ideal with which to engage ships at both long and short range. Its sleek hull is capable of entering atmosphere and skimming gas giants for fuel, though lightly armoured this design's impressive power plant coupled with the 3G rated Standard Imperial Thruster (S.I.T.) serves to make it an agile and versatile ship. Its 3-parsec rated jump drive also allows this design to serve moderately well as a fleet courier or deep space intruder/raider, jumping into hostile territory clandestinely refuelling before executing its mission objective. Accommodations aboard the destroyer are well designed; crewmembers and marines aboard enjoy the sole use of a stateroom, as opposed to the smaller, sometimes shared accommodations aboard other imperial naval units. This new model of comfort aboard combined with luxurious crew lounges/ward rooms is the design standard for most new Imperial designs, (and used as a positive recruiting tool, to adequately match the prestige and glamour associated with the Imperial Navy). This class of destroyer like most new build larger naval vessels comes with an impressive sickbay installed and a bank of 5 emergency low berths, capable of holding 20 humanoids, commonly used to stabilise and maintain battle injured comrades until they can be treated at an allied or suitable imperial facility. This is especially important as the small marine contingent aboard allows this ship to function adequately as a patrol cruiser and conduct inspections on merchant vessels as the marines are more than capable of conducting typical search & seizure duties, whilst the long range sensors installed on this design makes the craft ideal for picket duties typically associated with blockades around hostile or other important worlds or solar systems. The destroyer's turrets are all co-ordinated from the bridge via commands from the captain or tactical officer who may override the local control provided by a gunner in each turret, combining the power of each turret against a single target, though whilst increasing the chances of missing the target can pay off, particularly against a smaller foe as the combined damage can be devastating. Against multiple foes though the individual and well-trained gunners make the most of the ship's powerful computer assistance and sensor hand-offs obtained from the bridge and tend to control their turrets individually. This handy trick can be used to increase combat effectiveness in a damaged ship with gunnery crew killed or incapacitated. In addition to this it also has interior hanger space for a 30-ton ship's boat in order to serve as a ferry or high speed transport for the onboard marine detachment aboard including their equipment. More commonly though it is normally used as an executive shuttlecraft for senior officers or an interface vessel so that crewmembers could visit the surface of any world whilst the destroyer remains in orbit. The 30-ton hanger can easily be accommodated to hold a few small to medium fighters, depending upon their hull sizes, again adding to the versatility of this class or in some cases a marine assault lander and accommodations for additional troops.
