Barren Worlds Paul Williams Pocket Empires House Rule - pp.35-36 when calculating Resources at the start of the game, provision is made for Gas Giants and Planetoid Belts to be excluded from the total when Tech Level is below 8, and then subsequently included and exploitable once Tech Level reaches 8. It seems odd that the same is not true for a world that begins a Pocket Empires game as (Ba) Barren (i.e. no population to exploit resources that are there) and is limited to 1D-1 instead of 2D-2 Resources, but which later gets colonised by people able to exploit the resources. In the original rules no extra resources become available. Especially in the light of p.37 where even 'a very small poulation world with significant resources may often represent an exploitation unit, i.e. a small mining or farming unit extracting resources for sale to other worlds', our House Rule is that the missing 1D-1 worth of Resources gets rolled and added to the Resources total as soon as a Barren world gets colonised under the rules on p.67. |
