EDSV 'Fighting Scout'
Mark Bridgeman

A full description of this class of vessel is given in the T4 Adventure 'Gateway' a summary is as follows:

Built on a needle shaped hull, fully air-framed for high performance in an atmosphere the EDSV so called fighting scout is in fact a converted class of military reconnaissance ship with one of its three turrets removed and the space given over to a survey suite located on the upper deck capable of accommodating 4 survey specialists. Its impressive computer and sensors, comm. and avionics subsystems are hardened against radiation damage. Given this design's pedigree it was only a matter of time before it was pressed into exploration duties to which the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service (former Sylean Scout Corps) have found ample use for such a long duration craft.

The E.D.S.V. is ideal for independent operations well beyond the imperial fringe and like many scout vessels life aboard is rather cramped as up to 12 crewmembers can be squeezed into accommodations for 8 so some crewmembers will have to share a stateroom, on the plus side though the crew lounge is roomy and comfy containing a library of over 5000 video titles.

Some commanders get around this by combining crew positions, e.g. selecting gunners and a medic who are also trained in survey and sensor operations as survey duties are seldom combined with combat. Hence turrets can be controlled from the survey room in addition to the turret workstations themselves and bridge repeaters. Indeed in the event of a drastic emergency such as the bridge being destroyed, control of the entire ship can be assumed from the Survey room (with correct access codes of course). Lightly armoured the ship is reasonably fast and a versatile addition to any scout base, both within and beyond the Imperial Border.

Design Philosophy

A former military deep recon design, favoured by the former Sylean Federation Navy, for espionage and other covert duties. It's long, multiple jump range and impressive sensor suite and computer systems makes it ideal for scout service use. The scout version forgoes the dorsal turret and sacrifices some accommodation space in order to accommodate the extensive and roomy survey suite, which can in the event of an emergency function as an auxiliary bridge. This design is also ideal as a small short-range fleet courier or picket ship.
